Tucson, Ariz. - UNLV put together another strong performance this outdoor season on Saturday at the Willie Williams Classic at the University of Arizona.
The Rebels were looking for regional qualifiers and were successful. Candise Maxwell received an NCAA West Regional qualifying mark in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.72, taking third place.
"I was pleased with the performances of the team despite the fact that they were a little fatigued from the long bus ride to Tucson," said head coach Yvonne Scott-Williams. "We were able to come away with one regional qualifier and came really close in some other events."
In the 100 meter dash UNLV had four finishers in the top 10. Senior Lekeisha Lawson ran an 11.77 for a first place finish. With Shahnel Woodley in third at 11.79, Zadia Bryant placed sixth with a time of 12.03 and Candise Maxwell ran a 12.05 placing seventh.
UNLV's relay team took another impressive first place finish in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 46.16. Woodley, Lawson, Maxwell and David-Jacobs time improved greatly from the UNLV Classic. (46.65)
Deja Edwards was able to place second in the triple jump, 36'4.25. Christine Lowe ran the 400 meter hurdles at 61.52 for third place. Olivia Raya and Amanda Bingson respectively placed fifth and sixth in the hammer throw at 48.04m and 47.27m.
"Every meet they are learning how to compete and we are one step closer to where we are trying to go," Scott-Williams said.
Next up for the Rebels will be the Cal-Nevada Championships and the Stanford Invitational on March 27-28.
