COLORADO SPRINGS - The 65th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team finally got to play a Mountain West Conference match on Saturday and won it 7-0 over Air Force at the Academy's indoor courts.
The Rebels, who saw their Friday match vs. San Diego State postponed because the Aztecs couldn't make the trip after a Colorado blizzard, improved to 12-7 overall while the Falcons fell to 7-13 and 0-2 in the MWC.
UNLV won all three doubles matches to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. Elliot Wronski and Luca Barlocchi won 8-6 at the top spot; Attila Toth and Nikolaj Wulff won 8-2 at the second spot and Wesley Burrow and Mehdi Bouras teamed up for an 8-5 victory on court three.
UNLV lost only one set in singles play. Wronski fought off Austin Francis 6-3, 7-5 at the top position; Bouras rallied past Cody Hall 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2; Burrows won when his opponent retired after dropping the first set 6-1 at No. 3; Barlocchi won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, Toth won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5; and Wulff prevailed 7-6, 6-3 on court six.
"It was good to finally get a match in after being here so long," said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "Air Force is a disciplined team and playing them indoors at their place is never easy so it was a good effort today."
UNLV will close out the road-trip by facing New Mexico on Sunday morning at the Academy.
