Rebels Impressive at Cal-Nevada Championships

Los Angeles, Calif. - The UNLV women's track and field team had an impressive finish to the Cal-Nevada Championships Sunday as they placed seventh against strong competition throughout the weekend.

Senior Lekeisha Lawson continues to improve her times as the season goes on. Lawson ran her best time of the season at 11.73 in the preliminaries for a first place finish on Saturday in the 100 meters. Lawson finished third in the finals with a time of 11.80. In the 200 meters Lawson put together a 24.24 in the preliminaries and ran a 24.43 in the finals to take sixth place.

Shahnel Woodley also qualified for the finals in the 100 meters with a time of 11.99. Distance runner Isabelle Stoate finished 15th in the preliminaries on Saturday with a time of 2:16.42 in the 800 meters. Jennifer Shearer put together a strong run as she captured second place in the 10,000 meters with a time of 36:28.53.

Rachael Long and Candise Maxwell ran in the 100 meter hurdles for the Rebels. Maxwell grabbed second place in the finals with a time of 13.69 and Long ran a 14.41 in the preliminaries. Also in the hurdles, Christine Lowe ran the 400 meter hurdles place fourth with a time of 60.63, her best time this season.

UNLV took third place in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 45.80. On the field for the Rebels Claire Schreiner placed sixth in the high jump with a jump of 1.60m. Stephanie Schafer placed 21st at 1.50m. In the long jump Talyah Polee took 11th place with a distance of 5.27m. Amanda Bingson in the shot put was able to throw to an 18th place finish with a mark of 11.75m

Host UCLA captured the top spot of the weekend in the both the men's and women's competitions. The women had a total of 164.50 points while the men had 215.50. Rounding out the top three on the women's side was Mountain West Conference opponent San Diego State in second with 84 points and CSU Northridge totaling 81 points to a third place finish. UNLV placed seventh with a total of 47 points.

Next up for the Rebels will be the Pomona Pitzer Invitational in Pomona, Calif. on April 4.
