Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track and field opened its outdoor season in strong fashion, as six Rebels earned individual victories at the UNLV Classic, held at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field on Saturday.
The Rebels hosted a field that included in-state rival Nevada, Reno, Southern Utah, Utah Valley State and Alaska Anchorage, along with other individuals who entered the all day meet.
Four of those victories came on the track, led by Lekeisha Lawson in the 100 meters, who won that event with a time of 11.89, two-tenths of a second faster than teammate Shahnel Woodley, who ran a 12.09. Isabelle Stoate took home top honors in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.95, Jennifer Shearer won the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:49.05 and Candise Maxwell ran to the title in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.99.
Zadia Bryant added a second-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 25.19, just four hundredths of a second behind first place, while Maxwell came in fourth with a time of 25.23. DeLace Kelly added a third-place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 59.19 and Christine Lowe came in second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.76.
On the track Talyah Polee won the long jump with a distance of 18-7.75 and Portia Ford took top honors in the triple jump with a mark of 36-2.25. Bryant came in third in the triple jump with a distance of 34-8.25 and Ria Daniels came in fifth in the long jump with a leap of 16-3.25. In the high jump Claire Schreiner (5-3.00) and Stephanie Schafer (5-1) finished second and third as well.
Amanda Bingson finished third in the shot put (40-6.75) and fourth in the discus (122-8.00), and Olivia Raya added a fourth-place finish in the hammer with a distance of 158-7.00. Leah Maurer also added a third-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 138-1.00.
In the relays UNLV's 4x100 team won with a time of 46.65 and the 4x400 squad finished fourth with a time of 4:07.78.
UNLV will take next weekend off before continuing its outdoor season at the Willie Williams Classic, which is hosted by Arizona in Tucson, on March 20-21.
