Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels (24-14 overall, 1-3 Mountain West) lost by a 4-1 margin to the Colorado State Rams (18-19, 2-2) on Saturday night at Eller Media Stadium. The Rams scored twice in both the first and seventh innings, while riding the arm of Danielle Chaplin (5-6). The Rebels could only muster run in the fourth inning.
The Rams struck early with two runs in the first inning with help from back-to-back, run-scoring doubles by Rebecca Penland and Allison Majam. Christine Thomsen got the offensive going with a two-out walk issued by Jessica O'Connor (9-4). Penland then delivered an RBI-double to left-center for the first score, while Majam followed suit with a two-bagger of her own down the line in left.
UNLV cut the deficit to one run with a single score in the fourth. Brittany Bolinger, who initially walked and moved around the bases with help from a single and a fielder's choice, scored on a single up the middle by Kendall Fearn.
CSU added two insurance runs in the seventh inning on a single to left by Thomsen. Kim Klabough, who entered as a pinch-hitter, got the inning going by reaching on an error. The Rams then collected three straight singles capped by Thomsen's to push its lead to 4-1.
Chaplin earned the victory in 5.0 innings of work. She allowed one run on two hits, while striking out two and walking one.
Kelli Eubanks picked up her first save of the season in 2.0 innings of relief. Eubanks entered in the sixth and was touched for two seventh-inning hits. She worked herself out of the jam, while picking up three strikeouts and one walk.
O'Connor suffered the loss in 6.1 frames of a start. She surrendered four runs, three earned, on seven hits. She fanned three, but walked two.
Traci Odegard closed out the seventh inning for UNLV, as she recorded the final two outs.
UNLV and CSU close out their two-game set on Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 pm affair at Eller Media Stadium.
Note: Ashli Holland extended her hitting streak to a season-best seven games.
