LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team completed a very successful spring season this past Sunday when it won two of three games at Betty Wilson Field. The Rebels shutout both Southern Utah and Arizona State by 2-0 scores, before falling to UCLA 2-0.
"I was extremely happy with how we finished the spring season," said head coach Kat Mertz. "We had a slow start, but came together as a team on and off the field as the spring progressed. I am looking forward to the fall season with this team and with the addition of our incoming newcomers. Our schedule is challenging and we need to have a good summer in order to be ready for the fall."
In the win over Southern Utah, Shannon Hughes scored the game-winner off a free kick in the first half, while Ashleigh Shoughro added a goal in the second half. The Rebels also scored one goal in each half against Arizona State, with Katherine Orellana finding the back of the net in the first half, and Danielle O'Neil scoring the second goal.
