LAS VEGAS - UNLV sophomore second baseman Ashli Holland was named the Mountain West Conference's Softball Player of the Week.
Holland, who hails from Arvada, Colo., helped UNLV notch a perfect 4-0 record over the weekend. The sophomore hit .615 with a team-leading eight hits, five of which went for extra bases and attributed to her 1.154 slugging percentage. She racked up four multiple-hit games and had two or more RBI in two of the contests. She knocked in seven RBI and scored five runs, as well. Defensively, she owned a perfect field percentage in 19 chances.
Against Northern Colorado, she went 2-for-3 with two extra-base hits, as the Rebels defeated the Bears, 8-1. She scored twice and had two RBI to account for four of UNLV's eight runs. In her final at-bat in Fort Collins, she nailed a grand slam that gave UNLV the 7-6 victory over Colorado State. She went 2-for-3 with one double, one RBI and one run in the opener at New Mexico, and wrapped up the visit to Albuquerque going 2-for-4 with one double. Her four multiple-hit games over the weekend gave Holland 15 this season, which lead her team. She also has 11 multiple-RBI games in 2009.
Holland joins Alyssia De La Torre and Traci Odegard as the only Rebels to have been recognized for their on-field performances in 2009. De La Torre and Odegard were selected after the first week of play this season as the league's player and pitcher of the week, respectively.
