LAS VEGAS - The 65th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team was close again but lost to No. 50 TCU 5-2 on Friday, playing a neutral-site match indoors at the Eccles Tennis Center.
The Rebels fell to 12-10 overall and 1-3 in Mountain West Conference play while the Frogs jumped to 8-9 and 2-0.
TCU opened the morning meeting by winning a close doubles point. The Frogs' two ranked teams squeaked out wins on courts one and two, which offset UNLV's triumph at No. 3 by the team of Mehdi Bouras and Wesley Burrows.
In singles, Elliot Wronski posted a big win over No. 62-ranked Slah Mbarek, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 at the top spot, and Attila Toth continued his outstanding freshman season with a 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-4) super-tiebreaker victory over Christopher Price at No. 5. TCU, however, won three close matches to clinch the team win.
UNLV will look to salvage its trip when it takes on BYU on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
