Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels (23-11 overall, 0-2 MWC) suffered a 5-0 Mountain West Conference loss to the San Diego State Aztecs (24-13, 2-0) Sunday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium. Bailey Micetich (12-4) held the Rebel offense in-check with her one-hit performance, while her offense amassed five runs between the fifth and sixth innings.
After four scoreless frames, SDSU broke the game open with three scores in the fifth. Back-to-back singles to open the inning by Monica Alnes and Jessica Camello brought about a pitching change for the Rebels, as Stephanie Bregante entered in relief of Jessica O'Connor (8-3). Bregante managed to get the first batter out that she faced, but gave up a two-run double to Brittany Knudson to open the flood gates. Knudson pushed the Aztec lead to three when she scored following consecutive singles.
SDSU added two insurance runs in the sixth with help from two hits and two Rebel errors.
Micetich went the distance for the complete-game victory. She was touched for only one hit, a fifth-inning single by Ashli Holland. She struck out seven and walked one.
O'Connor suffered the loss in 4.0 innings of a start. She allowed two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
Bregante recorded the final 3.0 innings in relief. She was touched for three runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks.
UNLV is back in action on Tuesday (April 7) afternoon against the Arizona State Sun Devils in Tempe, Ariz. The Rebels and Sun Devils will play a doubleheader with the first game scheduled for 1:00 pm.
