SAN DIEGO - The UNLV Rebels (31-19 overall, 7-8 Mountain West) lost its final regular-season game of 2009 Saturday on the road to the San Diego State Aztecs (33-18, 10-5). The Rebel offense was held to three sixth-inning hits, while the defense committed four errors to aid the Aztecs in the 7-1 defeat at SDSU Softball Stadium.

UNLV will learn its fate on Sunday evening, as to whether they will earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will be aired live on ESPNU at 7:00 pm PT.

The Aztecs got two RBI-singles early in the game to stake themselves to a 2-0 lead through three. Tonye McCorkle knocked in the game's first run with a single through the left side in the first, while Brittany Knudson duplicated the feat in the third inning.

SDSU picked up two more scores in the fifth with help from three singles and two Rebel errors. Erin Floros dropped down a suicide-squeeze bunt to score the frame's first run, while Jessica Camello notched her second trip to home plate off an errant throw by Laura Briones at home.

UNLV got on the scoreboard in the sixth after being held scoreless and hitless through the first five stanzas. The Rebels strung together three singles to bring in their only run of the game. Briones snapped Bailey Micetich's (19-6) bid at perfection with a single to center. Elena Fata followed with a single to left that pushed Briones to second. Marissa Nichols plated Briones with an RBI-single to left.

The home squad extended its lead to six with three more tallies in the bottom of the sixth off of three hits, a sacrifice fly and two errors.

Micetich picked up the win in 6.0 innings of her start. She allowed only three hits and one run, while fanning three.

Stephanie Bregante (11-5) was saddled with the loss in 4.0 innings of work. Bregante allowed two runs on six hits in two stints in the circle. She struck out four and walked one.

Jessica O'Connor tossed two innings of relief and was touched for five runs, but only one was earned off of six hits. She struck out one.

Samantha Beasley closed out the game for the Aztecs with a perfect seventh-inning effort.
