Rebels Impress With Defense

TULSA, Okla. - The UNLV men's soccer team scored one goal late in the first half, but it was more then enough as the Rebels held Centenary to just one shot the entire game on the way to posting a 1-0 victory over the Gents on Sunday afternoon at the Oral Roberts Tournament from the ORU Soccer. The win pushed UNLV's record to 3-1-1 on the year, while Centenary dropped to 0-3-1.

The winning score came in the 41st minute on a score by junior midfielder Stephen Sifuentes, his second of the season. Freshman Nick Marshall assisted on the goal. UNLV would finish the game with a 12-1 edge on shots, including 9-0 on shots on goal. Goalkeeper Roland Swanson picked up his third shutout of the season and second in the last two games for UNLV. Centenary's Rennie Walker made eight saves in the net while allowing one score.

UNLV returns to Las Vegas for its next action, as the team will host the UNLV Rebel Classic this weekend at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The two-day event will kickoff on Friday, Sept. 18 with UC Riverside and Florida Gulf Coast playing at 4:30 pm, followed by UNLV and Illinois-Chicago at 7 pm. The Rebels will also play Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 1 pm.
