Another Draw For The Rebels

Sept. 18, 2009

Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - For the fourth straight game, the UNLV women's soccer team went to extra time, and would end up posting its third tie in the last four games as the Rebels and San Francisco played to a 0-0 double-overtime tie on Friday night at Negoesco Stadium. The Rebels' record moves to 2-2-4 on the season, while USF is 4-1-3.

It was a tight battle for the 110 minutes, as UNLV ended up with a slight 12-7 advantage on shots, and in fact the Rebels took all four shots of the opening half. It was a different story in the second half though, with the Dons taking a total of six shots on the Rebels, forcing UNLV goalkeeper Alicia Lugo to come up with three saves. UNLV took two shots of its own in the second half, but neither team would find the back of the net, sending the contest into overtime. In the two overtime periods the scoring threats came from UNLV, as it outshot the host Dons 6-1, but once again the Rebels' game would end in a draw.

Lugo finished the night with two saves to earn her 21st career shutout. Kelly Pohle would finish with six saves for USF.

UNLV will finish its road trip on Sunday afternoon when it takes on Saint Mary's in Moraga, Calif. in a 1 pm contest.
