Box Score

MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's Jessica Menzhuber scored on a free kick in the 69th minute for the game's only goal to give the UNLV women's soccer team a 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon. The setback for the Rebels move their record to 2-3-4 on the season, while the Gaels improved to 5-4 with the victory on their home field.

The Rebels' had trouble all game long getting their offense on track, as they would be credited with just six shots the entire game, including only one on goal. After the first half of play, St. Mary's held a 9-2 edge on shots, but the game would remain scoreless going into the break. The second half was a little more even, with the Gaels' shot advantage sitting at only 5-4, but they would need only one shot to earn the victory. The Rebels were whistled for a foul in the 68th minute to set up a free kick for Saint Mary's 35 yards away from the goal on the left sideline. Menzhuber took the free kick, and slipped her shot past Rebel goalkeeper Alicia Lugo for the goal and eventual game-winner.

UNLV got off two shots in the final 20 minutes in its attempt to tie the game, but also had to play shorthanded the final 14 minutes of the game after a Rebel player received her second yellow card of the game and was ejected.

Saint Mary's held a 14-6 edge on shots in the game, and an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks. Lugo made two saves in goal for UNLV, while Tara Larson collected one save to earn the shutout for the Gaels.

UNLV will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, when it hosts Southern Utah at 4 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
