BREMERTON, Wash. - The No. 13 UNLV men's golf team shot an opening-round 21-over-par 309 in the morning on Sunday and bounced back with a second-round 1-over 289 during the afternoon, putting the Rebels in a tie for sixth place at the PING/Golfweek Preview, which is being played at the 7,061-yard, par-72 Olympic Course at Gold Mountain Golf Club.
UNLV's 36-hole total of 22-over 598, trails tournament-leading Oklahoma State (290-287--577, +1) by 21 shots. Washington (295-294--589) is second at 13-over, 12 shots off the lead. USC (305-287--592) and LSU (299-293--592) are both tied for third at 16-over, while Arizona State (300-293--593) rounds out the top five at 17-over. The Rebels are tied for sixth with North Carolina State (297-301--598).
Oklahoma State's Peter Uihlein is the tournament's individual leader at 4-under 140 after shooting rounds of 3-under 69 and 1-under 71 on Sunday. LSU's Andrew Loupe is second, three shots back at 1-under.
UNLV was led individually by senior Eddie Olson, who is tied for 22nd at 5-over 149. Olson turned in rounds of 6-over 78 and 1-under 71. Rebel sophomores Derek Ernst (76-74) and Colby Smith (80-70) are both tied for 25th at 6-over 150.
Other Rebel players: senior Brett Kanda (75-82) is tied for 65th at 13-over and freshman Kevin Penner (90-74) is 74th at 20-over.
