DURHAM, N.C. - Senior goalkeeper Alicia Lugo was the star of the day, as she made 11 saves to help the UNLV women's soccer team claim a 0-0 double-overtime tie at No. 24 Duke on Saturday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium. The tie moved the Rebels' unbeaten streak to four games, as their record now stands at 2-1-2, while Duke is 2-2-1 following its first tie of the season.
It marked the second straight game the Rebels posted a shutout over an ACC opponent, coming on the heels of Thursday's 1-0 win at NC State. It was a tougher task for UNLV against the Blue Devils however, as the host school held a commanding 31-2 edge on shots for the game. That also included a 13-2 advantage on shots on goal, as the only Rebels that were credited with shots was one by Amanda Forrester in the second half and one from Ashleigh Shoughro in the second overtime.
Despite its huge shot advantage, the Blue Devils could not figure out how to get anything past Lugo in goal, who earned her second shutout of the year and 21st in her career. Duke's Tara Campbell came up with saves on both of UNLV's shots. The Blue Devils also held a 14-1 edge on corner kicks for the afternoon.
UNLV returns home for its next game, as Ohio State comes to Las Vegas for a Wednesday, Sept. 9 contest at 5 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
