LAS VEGAS - The 73rd-ranked UNLV men's tennis team earned its first victory of 2010 with a 7-0 blanking of Utah State in the first of two matches for the Rebels Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
UNLV began the morning by winning two of three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead. Mehdi Bouras and Luca Barlocchi won 8-3 at the top position and Johannes Markel and Bernard Schoeman, who was making his collegiate debut, combined for an 8-4 win on court three.
The Rebels did not lose a set in singles play. Bouras won 6-0, 6-2 over Jakob Asplund at No. 1; 102nd-ranked Barlocchi won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2; Attila Toth prevailed 6-3, 7-6 at No. 3; Markel won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4; Kasper Konyves won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5; and Charlie Alvardo won 6-0, 6-3 on court six.
