PROVO, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Macy Jo Harrison scored just over four minutes into the game to help the Rebels earn a 1-1 double-overtime tie at 14th-ranked BYU on Thursday night from the South Field on the BYU campus. The Rebels moved to 10-5-1 overall, 2-2-1 in the league with the draw, after suffering losses in their previous seven matches against BYU in Provo.
Harrison's goal came when she launched a long shot from 30 yards out that glanced off the head of a BYU defender and into the top of the goal past a surprised BYU goalie in the fifth minute. The lead stayed with the visitors until the 37th minute when Cami Jensen drove into the box and sent a long crossing shot to the far right post to tie the game at 1-1.
BYU held a big advantage on shots in both the first half (10-3) and second (10-1), but the Rebel defense played strong while UNLV goalkeeper Kylie Wassell would finish the night with seven saves. The game would go to overtime, and BYU would outshot the Rebels 4-1 in the first overtime, while the Rebels held a 3-2 edge in the second. Neither team would find the back of the net, ending the night in a draw.
In all, BYU would hold a 26-8 edge on shots, and 7-2 on corner kicks. McKinzie Olson was in the net for the Cougars, and posted two saves on the night.
UNLV remains in the state of Utah for its next contest, at the Utah Utes on Saturday at 12 pm (PT) in Salt Lake City.
