LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Cal State Bakersfield survived a barrage of UNLV shots in the second half to hold off the host Rebels 2-1 on Friday night in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's soccer action from Peter Johann Memorial Field. UNLV dropped to 5-8-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the conference with the loss, while the Roadrunners remained in first place at 4-0-2, and are 9-3-2 for the season.

CSUB set the tone offensively at the beginning of the game, holding an 11-8 edge on shots in the first half and scoring the game's first goal in the 23rd minute. Jesus Sanchez provided the goal for the Roadrunners, off an assist from Gyasi Zardez. UNLV kept pushing its attack, and received a corner kick after the Roadrunners headed out a long pass. Camilo Valencia took the kick for the Rebels, and sent the ball over the box to Zach Kupfer, and he quickly blasted a shot to the far post for the score, his first of the year, to tie the game at 1-1 in the 44th minute.

The Rebels held the advantage for most of the second half, outshooting the Roadrunners 10-6, and forcing goalkeeper Eric Shannon to make five saves over the final 45 minutes. The winning goal came in the 73rd minute for CSUB, as Keeyan Ghazanfarpour drove down the right side before sending in a cross into the box. Kory Kindle finished the play, kicking the ball in from close range for a 2-1 lead for the Roadrunners.

UNLV finished with an 18-17 edge on shots, while CSUB had six corner kicks to five for the Rebels. Simon Cook finished with four saves for UNLV on the night, while Shannon posted seven.

The Rebels return to action on Sunday when they host Seattle at 1 pm.
