SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) - Utah scored late in the first half and added two more second half scores to hand UNLV a 3-0 loss in Mountain West Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Ute Field. UNLV dropped to 10-6-1, 2-3-1 in league play with the loss, while Utah stands at 5-13-1, 3-2-1 in the MWC.
Other than the score, it was a very evenly played game, as both teams took 13 shots each, seven each in the first and six in the second. The game was scoreless until the final minutes of the first half when Katie Martinez took a pass and slotted a shot from inside the penalty box to the far right corner in the 43rd minute for a 1-0 lead. Kellie Woodfield and Lauren Hair assisted on the goal.
The lead was still at 1-0 late in the second half until an unfortunate play for the Rebels led to a second Ute goal. UNLV goalie Kylie Wassell attempted to clear the ball out of the box, but Hair was able to get in front of her, and the ball would deflect off of Hair's head into the goal for a Utah score in the 71st minute. Utah sealed the win in the 83rd minute on a score from Chelsea Forbes, off an assist by Hair.
Wassell finished with three saves in goal for UNLV, while Hannah Turpen recorded our for the Utes. UNLV had six corner kicks in the game, Utah four.
The Rebels will return to action on Friday, Oct. 29, with their regular season finale at San Diego State, beginning at 3 pm.
