SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) - San Diego State scored two second half goals to top UNLV 2-0 in the regular season finale for both teams in Mountain West Conference women's soccer action on Friday afternoon.
The loss dropped the Rebels to 10-7-1, 2-4-1 in league play. UNLV will now await the announcement of the pairings for next week's MWC tournament to be held in San Diego on Nov. 3-6, as the Rebels had already clinched a berth before entering the contest. SDSU meanwhile moved to 7-9-3, 5-2 in the conference.
Despite an 8-1 shot advantage by the Aztecs in the first half, the game would go into halftime tied at 0-0. SDSU went up 1-0 early in the second half however on a score from Soledad Gomez, as she tapped in a free kick from Haley Palmer in the 47th minute. Though UNLV would hold an 8-7 edge on shots in the second half, the Rebels could not get past SDSU goalkeeper Megan Allaire, and the Aztecs would push their lead to two on Zoe Carroll's shot from 15-yards out in the 63rd minute.
SDSU finished with a 15-9 edge, and 4-2 on corner kicks. Kylie Wassell posted five saves in goal for UNLV, while Allaire finished with two to earn the shutout.
