SACRAMENTO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - Playing in its second straight overtime contest, the UNLV men's soccer team scored a second-half goal to tie the game and hold on for a 1-1 tie with Sacramento State on Sunday afternoon from the Hornet Soccer Field.

With the draw outcome, the Rebels clinched a spot in the 2010 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament, which is limited to just six of the eight league teams. The tie moves UNLV's record to 3-4-2 in MPSF play, good for 11 points, ahead of Sacramento State (nine points), Seattle (seven points) and San Jose State (six).

Sac State (6-4-7 overall, 1-2-6 MPSF) opened the game with a score in the 11th minute when Gabe Silveira sent a low cross over to Ernesto Carranza, who one-touched the ball into the goal for the score. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Hornets until midway through the second half, when UNLV (6-9-2) tied the game on a shot from Stephen Sifuentes, his sixth of the year, in the 63rd minute. Sifuentes took a short cross from the top of the box and quickly sent a shot to the back of the goal for the tying score.

The second half would end without another goal, sending the contest into overtime. UNLV took both shots of the first overtime, while the Hornets had both second overtime shots, and the game would end in a tie.

UNLV finished with a 19-15 edge on shots, while Sac State had a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks. Simon Cook posted five saves in goal for UNLV, Cesar Castillo finished with seven for the Hornets.

The Rebels will now close out the regular season with a Senior Day contest against New Mexico on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 1 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
