Rebels Face Horned Frogs Friday

Coming off a disappointing loss in its MWC opener, the UNLV women's soccer (8-4, 0-1 MWC) will look to earn their first win of the year as they take to the road to face TCU (6-6-1, 0-1 MWC) in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday night at 5 pm (PT). The Horned Frogs will also be looking for their first win of the year as well, but have not played strong at home this season (3-3-1), while UNLV has won its only road contest of the season.

This is the seventh meeting all-time between UNLV and TCU, who is coached by former Rebel coach Dan Abdalla. UNLV won the first four meetings, before the 2008 contest ended in a tie, and the Horned Frogs earned their first win over UNLV in 2009.

The contest matches up two of the top scoring teams in the league, as TCU averages 2.4 goals per game, while UNLV is close behind averaging 2.1 goals per game. Both teams also are at the top of the MWC in shots taken per game as well, with TCU attempting 20.7 per game, and the Rebels 18.4.

Players To Watch

Senior forward Ashleigh Shoughro has quickly returned to her scoring form from her sophomore season, as she currently leads the Mountain West in both goals (nine) and points (21), and ranks in the top 25 in the nation in both. Three more players also have at least 10 points this year, sophomore Colette Jepson (four goals, three assists, 11 points), senior Amanda Forrester (four goals, two assists, 10 points) and sophomore Macy Jo Harrison (three goals, four assists, 10 points).

In goal for UNLV is freshman keeper Kylie Wassell, who has a 1.27 GAA, 43 saves and one shutout on the year.

Scouting TCU

The Horned Frogs are 6-6-1 on the year, and has yet to string together two consecutive wins thus far in 2010. In their last game, the squad posted a 5-2 win over Houston Baptist on Sunday, after falling at San Diego State 1-0 in double-overtime on Friday.

Leading the team this season is Jordan Calhoun with four goals and three assists for 11 points. Kim Castleberry also has four goals for eight points, tying her with Kaylie Garcia (three goals, two assists). In goal has been three keepers, though Kelsey Walters has seen the majority of time in the net. She has a 1.45 GAA with 40 saves in 809 minutes of action.

Next Time Out

UNLV returns home for its final two home games of the season. First up will be a Thursday, Oct. 14 contest against Wyoming at 7 pm. Senior Day will then be on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1 pm against Air Force, with both games being held at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
