Rebels Suffer 3-1 Setback

FORT WORTH, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - TCU scored twice in a six-minute span in the second half and held off a late UNLV charge to claim a 3-1 victory over the Rebels on Friday night in Mountain West Conference women's soccer action.

The Horned Frogs (7-6-1, 1-1 MWC) grabbed an early lead when Jordan Calhoun scored less then three minutes into the game off an assist from Jackie Torda. The score would remain 1-0 at the end of the first half, though UNLV (8-5, 0-2 MWC) ended up with 10 shots in the opening 45 to seven for the home team.

UNLV stayed within an goal until the 61st minute when Torda scored off an assist from Kaylie Garcia, putting TCU up 2-0. Five minutes later the lead jumped to 3-0 off another Calhoun goal, this time on a breakaway in the 66th minute.

The Rebels got on the scoreboard in the 85th minute on an unassisted score by Ashleigh Shoughro from the middle of the box. It was Shoughro's 10th score of the season, one away from her school record of 11, set in 2008.

UNLV finished the night with a 19-13 edge on shots, and had five corner kicks to two for the Horned Frogs. UNLV goalie Kylie Wassell posted four saves in the net, while Kelsey Walters collected eight for TCU.

The Rebels return to action on Thursday, Oct. 14, when they host Wyoming at 7 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
