Season Ends In MPSF Tournament

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - Third-seeded New Mexico scored on a deflection with just over two minutes left in the first overtime period to claim a 1-0 victory over sixth-seed UNLV in the first game of the 2010 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Soccer Tournament on Thursday afternoon from Hornet Soccer Field. With the loss in the tournament quarterfinals, the Rebels end their season at 6-11-2, while UNM improves to 9-4-5;

It was a fairly even game for the opening 90 minutes, with UNLV holding a 7-4 edge on shots in the first 45 minutes, while the Lobos had a 6-3 advantage in the second half. The goalies for both teams were solid in goal though, with UNLV's Simon Cook and UNM's Justin Holmes both makes four saves each in regulation. The game would go to overtime, the second overtime contest between the two teams this season.

The Rebels came out shooting, taking four early shots but were unable to find the back of the net. Josh Caffey would end the game when he scored on a point blank shot following a deflected shot in the 98th minute. Credited with assists on the goal were Travis Campbell and Michael Reed.

UNLV finished with a 14-11 edge on shots in the game, while corner kicks with three each for both teams.
