LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Caitlin Allen was voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Women's Soccer Third Team, the organization of sport information directors announced on Tuesday. It is the first academic honor in Allen's career, and she is the first to earn district honors since Dani Morin in 2008.
Allen, a sophomore and native of San Diego, is one of the starting defenders for the Rebels and was a big key to helping them double their win total from a year ago (currently the team record is 10-7-1). She has started all 18 games this season, and was named Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 27 after leading UNLV to a pair of shutouts over VMI and Weber State in the Air Force Invitational.
Allen, an Academic All-MWC honoree while also making the dean's list in her freshman year, currently carries a cumulative GPA of 3.91 with a major in environmental studies.
Student-athletes must be in at least their second season, hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and be a starter or important reserve to be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-District teams. District VIII is made up of schools in California, Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Utah.
