LAS VEGAS - The 73rd-ranked UNLV men's tennis team completed a doubleheader sweep on Friday with a 6-1 win over Northern Arizona at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 2-1 on the young season.
UNLV began the afternoon by taking all three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 advantage. Mehdi Bouras and Luca Barlocchi won 8-2 at the top position; Matthew Kunkel and Attila Toth outlasted their opponents 8-7 at No. 2; and Johannes Markel and Bernard Schoeman prevailed 8-4 at No. 3.
With 102nd-ranked senior Barlocchi sitting out singles play, the Rebels got a victory from Bouras, 6-2, 6-4, over Patrick Schimmelbauer at the top of the lineup. Also winning for the hosts was Toth at No. 3, Markel at No. 4, Kasper Konyves at No. 5 and Schoeman on court six.
UNLV shut out Utah State 7-0 earlier in the day.
"This was a long day of tennis against two improved programs," said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "Everyone played solid tennis in both singles and doubles and now we look forward to tomorrow."
UNLV will close out the weekend by facing Saint Mary's College Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Admission is free of charge.
