LEADING OFF: After opening the Mountain West Conference season last weekend at home with a 3-0 debut, the UNLV Rebels (26-14 overall, 3-0 MWC) remain at Eller Media Stadium for a league meeting Saturday (April 17) with San Diego State (25-10, 3-0) at 1:00 pm.

ON DECK: The UNLV Rebels will play four contests next week with one at home and the three on the road in the Beehive State. UNLV concludes its five-game homestand Tuesday, April 20 (4:00 pm) with a non-conference tilt with UMKC (Missouri-Kansas City).
The Rebels will then hit the road for a three-game set in the state of Utah against the BYU Cougars and the Utah Utes. The Cougars will host UNLV once in Provo on Thursday, April 20 (6:00 pm MT/5:00 pm PT). The Rebels will then head north up I-15 for single games against the Utes in Salt Lake City on Friday, April 23 (4:00 pm MT/3:00 pm PT) and Saturday, April 24 (1:00 pm MT/12:00 pm PT).
FRIENDS OF JACLYN DAY: This Saturday's game (1:00 pm) is being billed as "Friends of Jaclyn Day" with the first 150 children 12 and under through the Eller Media Stadium gates will receive a free miniature bat. Jenna Jackson, who the UNLV Softball program ceremonial adopted on Nov. 14, 2009, will throw out the first pitch.
Jenna is an eight-year-old from nearby Logandale, Nev., who was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, on July 1, 2009. Within 48 hours of her diagnosis, she underwent brain surgery. She has since completed radiation and and chemotherapy treatments.
The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation is non-profit, charitable organization that improves the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families. FOJ is all about love, support and friendship.
HOLLAND HONORED: UNLV junior second baseman Ashli Holland has been named the Mountain West Conference's Softball Player of the Week for the second time in her career. Holland, a two-time all-conference performer, has now earned the league's weekly honor for the first time on April 28, 2009.
Holland, an Arvada, Colo., product, batted .556 (5-for-9) with two home runs, one double, eight RBI and five runs scored, as the Rebels went 3-0 to open Conference play last week. She also tallied 1.333 slugging and .636 on-base percentages over the three games. Against Colorado State, she hit a grand slam as part of a five-run Rebel sixth inning, giving them a 7-4 victory. In game one of a two game series vs. New Mexico, she went 1-for-4, while scoring a run in UNLV's 8-3 win. She ended the week going 3-for-3 with a three-run homer, one double, four RBI and three runs scored in the Rebels' 12-11 come-from-behind game two win over the Lobos.
She joins Paige Emerson (March 16) and Marissa Nichols (April 6) as Rebels honored by the MWC this season with the weekly award. The trio of players are the most that UNLV has had recognized in a single season since four earned the distinction in 2007.
HULL HOMERS TO THE TOP: Jaci Hull pushed her name to the top of UNLV's home run chart with her 47th career home run hit last Sunday against New Mexico. Hull is no stranger to the record books, as she ranks in 13 all-time categories, including leading the runs scored and walks departments.
Currently, she is second in all-time RBI with 163 and trails Kim Rondina's (1994-97) career mark of 171.
THE 900 CLUB: With help from 57 wins at the helm of the UNLV Softball program, Pete Manarino reached the 900-win club. Manarino, who led Long Beach State to five Women's College World Series appearances and 17 NCAA Tournaments, brought 943 career victories with him when he took over the Rebels in 2009.
The clinching victory came in dramatic fashion, as UNLV rallied for a 12-11 come-from-behind win in its final at-bat.
CONFERENCE OPENERS: The UNLV Rebels own a record of 14-12 overall dating back to 1985 in conference openers. UNLV has now begun its league season at home on 18 occasions and in those 26 years they sit 11-7.
Since joining the Mountain West Conference for the 1999-2000 season, UNLV owns a 5-6 overall mark in those first games, while going 3-4 at home.
LOOKING BACK A WEEK: The UNLV Rebels went 3-0 last weekend in their first home contests in 30 days. UNLV kicked off Mountain West Conference play with one win over Colorado State and a pair against New Mexico.
In the conference home opener, UNLV needed some sixth-inning heroics from Ashli Holland to claim a 7-4 win. The Rams, who entered the sixth trailing 2-0, scored four runs to lead 4-2. UNLV loaded up the bases for Holland to crush a grand slam and put the Rebels ahead 6-4. Alyssia De La Torre followed with a solo shot of her own to close the scoring out.
In the first New Mexico contest, UNLV scored two runs in each of the first four innings for the win. Paige Emerson's two-run triple in the second was the game winner that pushed the Rebels ahead for good at 4-2.
In the second UNM affair, the teams combined for 16 runs through two innings of action. The Lobos owned three leads to UNLV's two. Trailing 11-10 in the bottom of the seventh, the Rebels got two walks and a single from Tayler Aleman to load the bases up with one out. Emerson then delivered her second game-winning hit in as many days with a two-run single to center. Holland scored the game-tying run, while Korin Cuico slid around a tag for the winning tally.
Offensively, UNLV hit .376 as a team with six players hitting above the .300 mark. Tara Bendt led the team in batting (.600) and hits (6), while tying for the lead in runs (5), doubles (1) and on-base percentage (.636). Ashli Holland topped the squad in RBI (8), total bases (12) and slugging (1.333, while tying for the lead in runs (5), doubles (1), home runs (2) and on-base (.636).
In the circle, Jessica O'Connor went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 5.0 innings of work and three appearances. O'Connor got the wins against Colorado State and in the second New Mexico contest. Kylie Wagner picked up the win in the first UNM affair. Wagner appeared in two games and threw 9.2 innings with an ERA of 3.62.
