LAS VEGAS -

2010 UNLV Women's Soccer Schedule

A stretch of five straight weekends of tournament play highlights the UNLV women's soccer team 2010 schedule, which was released by the athletics department on Wednesday. The Rebels, who will open the season with six of their first nine contests in Las Vegas, will play an 18-game regular-season slate that includes three dates against teams that played in the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

For the second straight year UNLV will have the earliest start date in program history, as the Rebels begin the 2010 campaign on Aug. 20 at UC Riverside in the second-ever meeting between the two schools. The following week will see UNLV return home for what will be the start of five straight tournaments over the proceeding five weekends.

First up will be the Las Vegas Invitational, in which the Rebels will host Albany (Aug. 27) and Louisiana-Monroe (Aug. 29). It will be the first time UNLV will have played either school in women's soccer. UNLV will then head to Colorado for two games in the Denver Invitational. The Rebels will open play against Drake on Sept. 4, and then face either Colorado from the Big 12 Conference or the host Denver Pioneers on Sept. 6. UNLV has never faced Drake or Colorado in women's soccer.

The next weekend will see the Rebels host the UNLV Nike Classic, with UNLV facing Oregon from the Pac-10 Conference on Sept. 10, and closing out the tournament against Cal State Northridge on Sept. 12. It will mark the first-ever meeting with the Ducks, while UNLV last played CSU Northridge in 2008. The final non-conference home games follow with the UNLV Rebel Classic, with games against Long Beach State on Sept. 17 and UC Davis on Sept. 19. The Rebels have never played UC Davis, while it will be the sixth all-time meeting with LBSU.

UNLV will close out its non-conference slate back in Colorado, with a pair of games in the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs. UNLV will first play VMI on Sept. 24, and close out with a contest against Weber State on Sept. 26. It will be the first meeting against Weber State since 2002, while the Rebels have never faced VMI.

UNLV will begin the Mountain West Conference portion of its schedule on Oct. 1 when it hosts New Mexico. Following a game at TCU (Oct. 8), the Rebels then return home for a pair of games against Wyoming (Oct. 14) and Air Force (Oct. 16). For the first time since 2002, the Rebels will end the regular season with three straight road contests, at BYU (Oct. 21), at Utah (Oct. 23), and at San Diego State (Oct. 29). This year's MWC Tournament will be hosted by 2009 champions San Diego State on Nov. 2-6.

The Rebels return six starters from last year's squad, which finished with a 5-9-5 record.
