UNLV women's track and field concluded its outdoor season Saturday at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas, which is being held at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Running in her second event of the meet, senior Chauncey David-Jacobs turned in a personal-best time of 23.84 in the 200 meters to finish 15th overall, which was three spots away from earning a spot in the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Earlier in the week she competed in the 400 meters and nearly qualified for the national meet in that event, finishing 16th overall, as the top 12 finishers from each event advanced to the national meet.
UNLV senior Bailey Kuestermeyer wrapped up her career, running a 17:26.87 in the 5,000 meters, good for a 30th-place finish overall at the meet. Rebel sophomore Amanda Bingson came in 21st in the hammer with a throw of 183-0.00.
Two Rebel relay squads also competed on Saturday, with the 4x100 meter relay team coming .01 seconds away from earning a trip to the NCAA Championships, coming in 13th with a time of 44.98. Cal, with a time of 44.97, barely finished ahead of UNLV for the final 400-meter relay spot. UNLV's 4x400 meter relay team came in 22nd place with a time of 3:43.95.
Although no Rebels advanced to the NCAA Championships, head coach Yvonne Scott was still pleased with the progress of the program as she finished her third year at the helm.
"We are very disappointed in not advancing any of the team to the NCAA finals," Scott said. "We needed all the pieces to come together this weekend and they didn't. I am still very excited about the future of this program. We have some young and talented athletes that will take this team to the next level."
