Bingson Places Eighth At National Event

June 28, 2010

LAS VEGAS - UNLV sophomore Amanda Bingson placed eighth nationally at the 2010 USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa this past weekend with a hammer throw of 206-09 (63.03m). Bingson was the first Rebel to participate in the championships since Christine Spence (400-meter hurdles) in 2005.

Bingson recently earned Mountain West All-Conference and Women's Outstanding Performances honors, as she established a new school record with a hammer throw of 210-2.00. The effort was the second-best mark in conference history and the first in Rebel program annals to break the 210-foot barrier. She holds the distinction as being the first UNLV athlete to win a throwing even at a conference championship since 1989.

In all, she has re-written the UNLV record book in the hammer on four occasions beginning with a throw of 181-1.00 during her freshman campaign in 2009. Earlier this year, she pushed the record to 183-5.00 before reaching the 193-1.00 mark on April 16, at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
