Rebels Picked Seventh In MWC

LAS VEGAS -

UNLV was picked to finish seventh in the 2010 Mountain West Conference women's soccer preseason poll released Tuesday morning, while BYU was the favorite to win the 2010 title.

BYU, two-time defending regular season champions, received six first-place votes for a total of 48 points. San Diego State, who won the 2009 MWC tournament , and Utah both received one first place vote each and were tied for second place in the poll with 37 points. Just two points behind was TCU in fourth with 35, while New Mexico was fifth (24), Wyoming sixth (21), UNLV seventh (15) and Air Force eighth (7).

The Rebels, under first-year head coach Jennifer Klein, return six starters from last year's squad that finished 5-9-5, and 1-5-1 in conference play. Highlighting the returnees is senior forward Ashleigh Shoughro and senior defender LaChere Anglin.

UNLV opens its season on Friday, Aug. 20 with a road contest at UC Riverside at 7 pm.
