LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's soccer team, under first-year head coach Jennifer Klein, kicks off the 2010 season on Friday night as the Rebels will play their season opener at UC Riverside in a 7 pm contest. This will be the third time in the last five years UNLV has opened the season on the road, with the previous two contests resulting in a 2-1 loss at Washington State in 2006 and a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Loyola Marymount in 2008.
This will also be the second all-time meeting between the schools. In the first game of the series, also played in Riverside, Calif., the Highlanders claimed a 3-2 victory in UCR Soccer Stadium on Sept. 28, 2008.
UNLV comes in to Friday's contest having won both of its exhibition contests, a 6-2 victory at Southern Utah and a 1-0 win over Dixie State. The Rebels will have three seniors in their expected starting lineup, forward Ashleigh Shoughro, midfielder Amanda Forrester and defender LaChere Anglin.
UC Riverside posted a 6-9-4 record last year, but do return goalie Jessica White, who was a freshman in 2009 recorded a 0.80 GAA.
