Aug. 20, 2010

Box Score

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - Senior Amanda Forrester scored the only goal of the game early in the second half to give UNLV a 1-0 road victory at UC Riverside on Friday night in women's soccer action from UCR Soccer Stadium. The win was UNLV's first season-opening victory in four years, and also gave Jennifer Klein a win in her first game as the Rebels' head coach.

After a scoreless first half, in which UNLV held a 7-4 edge on shots, the visiting Rebels would place themselves on the scoreboard in the 55th minute thanks to Forrester, who headed in a corner kick from Macy Jo Harrison. That goal would stand up the rest of the game as freshman Kylie Wassell got the start in goal for the Rebels and did not allow a goal over 90 minutes while coming up with seven saves to earn the shutout.

Jessica White finished with 11 saves and one goal allowed for the Highlanders. The Rebels finished with a 15-9 edge on shots for the night, and a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks.

UNLV will return to action in a week when the Rebels host the Las Vegas Invitational on Aug. 27 and 29 at Peter Johann Memorial Field. In the first day of the tournament, UNLV will host Albany at 7 pm, while the day's first game will feature Louisiana-Monroe and Portland State at 4:30 pm. UNLV will then take on Louisiana-Monroe on Aug. 29 at 1 pm.
