Wassell Named Player Of The Week

Aug. 23, 2010

LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Kylie Wassell was named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

It is the first career honor for Wassell, a freshman goalkeeper from Las Vegas. In her first-ever career game Wassell faced a total of nine shots and came up with seven saves over 90 minutes to earn a shutout in UNLV's 1-0 season-opening victory at UC Riverside on Aug. 20.

The win was UNLV's first season-opening victory in four years, and also gave first-year head coach Jennifer Klein her first career victory.

UNLV (1-0) will return to action this weekend as it hosts the Las Vegas Invitational on Aug. 27 and 29 at Peter Johann Memorial Field. In the first day of the tournament, UNLV will host Albany at 7 pm, while the day's first game will feature Louisiana-Monroe and Portland State at 4:30 pm. UNLV will then take on Louisiana-Monroe on Aug. 29 at 1 pm.
