Box Score

LAS VEGAS - Senior forward Ashleigh Shoughro continued her hot scoring streak, scoring a pair of goals to lead the UNLV women's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout over Louisiana-Monroe in the final game of the Las Vegas Invitational on Sunday afternoon from Peter Johann Memorial Field. The two goals gave Shoughro a total of six for the weekend, and the victory tied the best start in school history for the Rebels at 3-0, along with the 2003 squad. ULM dropped to 1-2 on the season.

Shoughro scored the afternoon's first goal just over five minutes into the contest. Katherine Orellana started the play when she brought the ball down the field and passed off to Shoughro as she entered the box. Shoughro then slipped in a shot to the left post for the score.

Sophomore Colette Jepson pushed the UNLV edge to 2-0 in the 20th minute. Orellana again earned an assist on the play, as her cross from the right baseline found Brittney Flores inside the box. Flores tapped over a short pass to Jepson, who deposited the ball in the back of the net from eight yards out. Senior Sarah Naranjo finished the scoring in the first half with her first career goal, taking a pass from Jenn Wolfe and chipping in a shot over the goalie from 18 yards out in the 41st minute.

Shoughro closed out the scoring in the 86th minute, when she redirected a free kick from Amanda Forrester into the goal from six yards out, putting UNLV up 4-0. The Rebels have now scored 10 goals in the past three games, after scoring a total of 15 in the 2009 season.

Kylie Wassell and Ashlee Dela Cruz split time in the goal for UNLV with each playing a half to post the combined shutout for the Rebels, while Dela Cruz also finished with one save. UNLV held an impressive 27-2 edge on shots on goal, including 13-1 on shots on goal. Alex Holland was in goal for the Warhawks, and allowed four goals while posting nine saves.

UNLV will return to action this weekend when it travels to Denver, Colo., for the Denver Invitational. The Rebels will open the tournament by playing Drake on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 3:30 pm. UNLV will then face either Colorado or Denver on Sept. 6 in the second day of the tournament.
