LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - In a very hard fought contest, the UNLV women's soccer team (5-3) was handed a heartbreaking loss when Long Beach State's (5-3-1) Shawna Gordon scored midway through overtime to steal a 2-1 victory over the Rebels on Friday night from Peter Johann Memorial Field.

Playing in the second game of the UNLV Rebel Classic, UNLV grabbed a 1-0 first half lead thanks to a goal from senior midfielder Amanda Forrester. After the 49ers were called for a foul 25 yards away from their goal, Forrester took the free kick and sent her shot to the top of the net, just over the reach of LBSU goalkeeper Emily Kingsborough for the score in the 36th minute.

UNLV dominated the action in the first half, taking eight shots to two for the visitors. LBSU started to even things up in the second 45 minutes, taking three to four for the Rebels. The 49ers would tie the score in the 54th minute when Nadia Link drove down the left side, drawing the defenders over before sending a cross over to Marysol Rosas in the box, and Rosas shot the ball past UNLV's Kylie Wassell for the score.

The Rebels had two strong chances to score a second goal as Ashleigh Shoughro had a pair of breakaways, but both of her shots were stopped by Kingsborough. The winning score for the 49ers came following a throw-in deep on the Rebels' side of the field. Lindsay Bullock sent in a cross from the right side that Gordon redirected into the back of the net for the winning score in the 96th minute.

UNLV finished with a 12-7 advantage on shots, while LBSU had three corner kicks to one for the Rebels. Wassell finished with a pair of saves for UNLV, and Kingsborough would end the night with five for the 49ers.

Sunday will see the Rebels close out the classic with a 1 pm contest against UC Davis, 2-0 winners over Akron in the day's first game.
