LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Sophomore Macy Jo Harrison's second goal of the season was the difference as the UNLV women's soccer team topped UC Davis 2-1 on Sunday afternoon from Peter Johann Memorial Field in the final game of the UNLV Rebel Classic. The Rebels improved to 6-3 with the victory, while the Aggies dropped to 3-3-1.

UNLV took a quick advantage thanks to senior forward Ashleigh Shoughro, as she took in a pass from Brittany Flores and squeezed in a shot that banged in off the left post and over the goaline for a score in the fifth minute. It was the seventh goal of the season for Shoughro.

The Aggies would tie the score in the 12th minute when Allison Kelly held off a Rebel defender while dribbling towards the left side of the goal, and sent a shot through the UNLV goalkeeper to the back of the net to make it a 1-1 game. The Rebels had their chances for a second goal during the opening half, with its best chance a shot by Shoughro that hit the crossbar before coming back onto the field of play, but the game would go into halftime still tied.

Shoughro, who took eight shots in the game, factored into the deciding goal as she drew a foul after being taken down driving towards the goal right outside of the box. Harrison took the free kick, and sent a high shot to the back of the goal, giving UNLV a 2-1 edge in the 50th minute. UC Davis kept up its attack in the second half, taking eight shots in attempt to find a second goal, but the Rebel stood strong to keep the Aggies off the scoreboard in the second half to earn the victory.

UC Davis held a slight edge on shots, 18-16, while both teams took three corner kicks. Kylie Wassell made seven saves in goal for the Rebels, and Aggie keeper Kathleen Brandl finished with six saves in the net.

UNLV will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a trip to the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend. The Rebels will meet VMI on Friday at 3 pm, followed by a Sunday contest at 1 pm against Weber State.
