GREEN BAY, Wisc. (UNLVRebels.com) - Robert Morris scored once in each half to hand the UNLV men's soccer team a 2-1 loss on Sunday afternoon in the Green Bay Soccer Classic at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
The afternoon's first score came in the 31st minute from the Colonials' Francis Bowman, following a corner kick into the box from Neil Shaffer. The first half would end with RMU up 1-0.
The lead increased to 2-0 for the Colonials in the 70th minute when Miro Cabrillo outraced Rebel goalkeeper Ryan Harding to the ball, broke away from two defenders and scored on the empty net. UNLV cut the deficit to one in the 90th minute off junior Richard Abrego's first career goal.
Simon Cook played the first half in goal for UNLV, and finished with one save and one goal allowed, while Harding posted two saves and one goal allowed in 45 minutes of action. RMU goalkeeper Toba Bolaji finished with four saves and one goal allowed. UNLV held a 13-11 edge on shots, while RMU took eight corner kicks to three for the Rebels.
After four straight games away from Las Vegas, the Rebels return to their home field as they will host the UNLV Rebel Classic on Friday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 26 at Peter Johann Memorial Field. Friday's contest for UNLV will be a reunion as well for head coach Rich Ryerson, as UNLV will face Mount St. Mary's, coached by his brother and former Rebel All-American Rob Ryerson. That game will kickoff at 7 pm, while the Rebels will also face UC Irvine on Sunday at 1 pm.
