COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's soccer team used five goals from four different players to claim a 5-0 victory over VMI in the first game of the Air Force Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Rebels improved to 7-3 on the season, while VMI dropped to 1-8.
Senior Ashleigh Shoughro added to her season goal total with a pair in the game, including the game-winner in the 13th minute. Colette Jepson assisted on the score, as she send a pass form the end line that Shoughro took in before sending a shot to the back of the net for the score. Shoughro's second goal came in the 49th minute, marking her ninth of the season, off an assist from Katherine Orellana.
The game's second goal was posted by Amanda Forrester, as she took passes from Shoughro and Jepson before unleashing a shot from 10 yards out for the score in the 22nd minute. Brittney Flores closed out the first half scoring with a blast from 25 yards out, putting UNLV up 3-0 at halftime.
Jenna Larken posted the game's final goal, one touching a Shoughro pass from eight yards out for her first goal of the season in the 55th minute.
UNLV finished the afternoon with a 38-3 edge on shots, and had a school-record tying 14 corner kicks. Kylie Wassell and Ashlee Dela Cruz each played a half in the net for UNLV, and both posted one save each, while VMI goalie Angela Redmond finished with 11 saves and five goals allowed.
UNLV will close out the weekend with its second game in the Air Force Invitational, on Sunday afternoon at 12 pm against Weber State.
