LARAMIE, Wyo. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV posted its third straight shutout, but had to settle for a 0-0 double-overtime tie at Wyoming on Sunday afternoon in Mountain West women's college soccer action at Louis S. Madrix Complex. With the tie, the Rebels dropped from first to a tie for second in the conference with 10 points off a 3-1-1 mark (7-8-3 overall). San Diego State, UNLV's final regular season opponent, also has 10 points, while New Mexico is the current conference leader with 11. The Cowgirls dropped to fourth place with eight points (9-5-4, 2-1-2 MW).
Wyoming finished the game with a 15-11 edge on shots, though momentum on offense seemed to switch by halfs, as the Cowgirls held a 7-3 edge on shots in the first half and 6-0 in the first overtime period. UNLV meanwhile held the Cowgirls to just one total shot in the second half, while taking seven of their own. Both teams were credited with one shot each in the second overtime period.
Shots on goal were 6-4 in favor of Wyoming, while each team had five corner kicks. Brittany Flores took two shots on goal for UNLV, with the other two coming from Macy Jo Harrison and Jenna Howerton. Kylie Wassell finished with five saves to give UNLV its third straight team shutout. Courtney Merkle posted four saves for the Cowgirls.
UNLV returns to action with its game against SDSU on Friday afternoon in a Senior Day contest. It's also a doubleheader with the UNLV men's team, and all tickets are just $1. The game will start at 4:30 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field, while the men will play at 7 pm.
