FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The UNLV Rebels (11-13 overall, 3-7 Mountain West) suffered a 3-0 loss (25-15, 25-9, 25-17) to the 25th-ranked Colorado State Rams (17-4, 10-1) Saturday afternoon at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo. The loss was the seventh straight by UNLV in the head-to-head series.
CSU's offense fired on all cylinders in the match with its attackers racking up a staggering .493 hitting efficiency for the match compared to UNLV's .058 effort. The Rams hit no worse than .409 (second set) in any frame and topped out at .577 in the third and final stanza. Overall, the hosts threw down 43 kills on 73 swings and only committed seven errors. UNLV, on the other hand, hit no better than .192 (third) in any set. The Rebels accumulated 27 kills and 22 errors in 86 attempts.
Daryn Glenn led all Rebel attackers with six kills and added three digs, one assist and one block.
Madeline Westman, Stephanie Thelen and Sekola Falemaka all had four kills apiece. Westman chipped in three assists, three digs, two aces and an assisted block. Thelen led the Rebels in assists with 19 and added two digs. Falemaka also had one assist and one dig.
The Rams were led offensively by Katelyn Steffan's 10 kills on .667 hitting. Steffan was the only player to reach double figures in kills in the match, while she had five assisted blocks and two digs.
Deedra Foss owned a match-high 36 assists, while Dana Cranston topped all in digs with nine. Foss also had five digs, four assisted blocks, two kills and two aces. Cranston threw down seven kills, one assist and one ace.
UNLV returns to Las Vegas to host its final two matches at home next week. The Rebels welcome TCU to town on Nov. 3 at 7:00 pm, while New Mexico visits two days later on Nov. 5 at 1:00 pm.
