LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team saw its fall tournament schedule end Sunday as its own Easley Memorial Classic came to a close.
Auburn's Andreas Mies won top honors by getting by Francis Alcantara 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 in the top flight singles final.
A Tiger duo also won the doubles crown as Alex Stamchev and Daniel Cochrane got by the Bulldogs' Alcantara and Jean-Charles Diame 9-7.
"This years field was the deepest we have had it was a great weekend of tennis," said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "It was a good way to end our fall and we are excited for the spring season. I would like to thank all the teams for participating , trainers, and everyone else who helped with the event."
Players from eight other programs competed in the individual event: Arkansas, Auburn, Fresno State, UC Irvine, Utah, San Diego State, New Mexico and NAU.
The annual tournament was renamed last year in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
