LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team got back on track Thursday with a 6-1 win over a solid Utah State team at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Rebels improved to 6-3 on the season while the Aggies fell to 5-3.

The hosts opened a 1-0 lead by taking all three doubles matches: Johannes Markel and Bernard Schoeman combined for an 8-6 victory at the top spot; Tamas Batyi and Mehdi Bouras won 8-3 at No. 2; and Alex Bull and Kasper Konyves prevailed 8-4 on court three.

Moving to singles play, UNLV posted straight-set victories on four courts to clinch it. Bouras downed Sven Poslusny 6-4, 6-1 at the top position; Batyi swept Fredrik Peterson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3; Bull won 6-1, 6-1 over Alex Thatcher at No. 5; and Konyves swept Nikita Ryashchenko 6-3, 6-2 on court six. Schoeman went to a super-tiebreaker and finally won his match at No. 4 over Bryan Marchant by the score of 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (11-9). USU's only point came at No. 2, where Markel retired against Jakob Asplund with the score tied 5-5 in the first set.

"This was probably the best Utah State team that I've seen but our guys really took care of business today," said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "We are looking forward to two more matches this weekend."

UNLV is next in action on Saturday when it hosts a doubleheader. The Rebels will face UC Riverside at 10 a.m and then take on Idaho State at approximately 2 p.m. Admission to all UNLV matches is free of charge.
