MWC Indoor Championships - Day 1 Video
ALBUQUERQUE (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels had a good showing on the first full day of the Mountain West Conference's Indoor Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque. Overall, UNLV sits in sixth with 20 points, trailing BYU's first-place tally of 66 for the team title. The Rebels' points were greatly influenced by Chelsea Cassulo and Amanda Bingson finishing first and second, respectively, in the weight throw event Friday from the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Cassulo became the first Rebel to win the weight throw event at an MWC Indoor Championship with a program-best distance of 65-5.25 (19.87m) for the title. Her toss was the third-longest recorded in the history of the MWC Indoor Championships and fourth-best in the league.
Bingson finished second to her teammate in the event with a personal-best throw of 64-7.75 (19.70m). Her effort ranks as the fourth-best in conference championship annals.
Emily Blok qualified for Saturday's finals in the 60m (7.54) and 200m (23.96) after Friday's preliminaries. Both times are personal best.
Kelsey Williamson earned a spot in tomorrow's finals with a time of 55.91 in the 400m, while Deja Edwards qualified with a long jump distance of 18-9.25 (5.72m).
The conference continues for one more day in the Duke City.
