Final Stats
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Amanda Oliveto tossed her second consecutive no-hitter Friday night in UNLV's 9-0, five-inning win over the Seattle Redhawks (3-21). Oliveto faced one batter over the minimum in the contest, as she walked the first hitter that stepped to the plate in the fifth to lose the bid for a perfect game. The Rebels (17-12) nine-run outing was sparked by three two-run home runs by three different batters in the Pre-Conference Round-Up at Eller Media Stadium.
Oliveto (14-5) tossed five innings for her 14th complete game and fourth shutout in 15 starts this season. She struck out six and walked one. Overall, she has thrown 12 frames without allowing a hit and registered 14 strikeouts.
UNLV built up a quick 4-0 lead through two innings of action thanks to two-run blast from Tayler Aleman and Stefany Valentino in the first and second, respectively. Ashli Holland (walk) scored on Aleman's dinger, while Jaexie Balilea (hit-by-pitch) touched home plate on Valentino's jack.
The Rebels added a fifth run in the third off of an RBI-double by Kylie Wagner. Aleman scored from first on the gapper after initially reaching via walk.
Pauline Monreal capped a four-run fifth with a two-run homer that brought about the eight-run rule to end the ball game. Paige Emerson began the frame with a double to right and was quickly joined by Aleman and Korin Cuico after back-to-back singles. Emerson managed to score on a wild pitch from SU's Richelle Ashburn, while Aleman came home on a sacrifice fly by Wagner. With Cuico the only Rebel still on the bases, Monreal brought her in with the homer.
Ashburn fell to 2-9 with the loss in 4.1 innings of work. She was touched for nine runs on eight hits. She struck out one against two walks.
UNLV is back in action Saturday afternoon with consecutive games against Seattle (1:30 pm) and Loyola Marymount (3:45 pm).
