Box Score

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV held a 1-0 lead for almost 60 minutes of the contest, but two second-half goals from Seattle gave the Redhawks a 2-1 victory over the Rebels in the second game of the UNLV Nike Invitational in college women's soccer action on Friday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

The Rebels (2-6-1) scored their quickest goal of the season in the third minute, when Denali Murnan slipped a shot through the Seattle (6-3) goalie that had charged out of the goal, with the ball hugging the ground before rolling over the goaline for a 1-0 Rebel lead. It was the second score of the season for the UNLV freshman, while Katherine Orellana was credited with an assist on the score.

Though it was the only shot of the half for UNLV, the Rebels would take the 1-0 lead into halftime over Seattle, who had five shots in the opening 45 minutes. Both teams had five shots in the second half, but this time it was Seattle that connected on its attempts. The first score came in the 63rd minute when from 35 yards out, Heather Thomas unleashed a high lofting shot that found the top right corner of the goal over the hands of UNLV goalie Kylie Wassell, tying the game at 1-1. The game-winner came in the 75th minute when UNLV was called for a foul in the penalty box, giving Seattle a penalty kick. Julia Besagno converted the PK, giving the Redhawks a 2-1 lead that would hold up for the rest of the contest.

Seattle finished with a 10-6 edge on shots, though only 4-3 on shots on goal. SU also had a 2-1 edge on corner kicks. Wassell and Madison Goverde both finished with two saves each for UNLV and Seattle, respectively.

UNLV returns to action on Sunday in the final game of the Nike Invitational, hosting Hawaii at 1 pm.
