Jan. 12, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - After finishing the non-conference season with a 16-2 record, its best start to a season since 1992-93, the UNLV men's basketball team has earned a No. 12 national ranking for the first time in 19 years (Feb. 8, 1993 was its last No. 12 ranking). The Runnin' Rebels have won seven straight games, eight of their last nine, and after an eight-day break without a game, will open Mountain West play on Saturday, Jan. 14, at No. 22 San Diego State. The 1 p.m. PST game will be televised by NBC Sports Network (formerly VERSUS) with Steve Schlanger and Blaine Fowler calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio broadcast, which may be heard live in Las Vegas on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/98.9 FM. The radio broadcast is also available at UNLVRebels.com through the subscription-based All-Access feature, while Gametracker is provided for free on the website. UNLV has lost five straight games to the Aztecs, eight of its last nine and three straight in San Diego. Saturday marks the second straight year that the MW is opening its conference slate with a game between two teams ranked in the top 25. UNLV was 25th last year when it hosted 15th-ranked BYU to open the conference season.
