Rebels Ready For The Other Side

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -

Halfway through the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season the UNLV men's soccer team stands in second place in the Pacific Division, but will now play its first games out of the division with this weekend's road games. First up will be a Friday, 6:30 pm contest at 14th-ranked New Mexico in Albuquerque, followed by a Sunday, 11 am match at new conference rival Houston Baptist. The game on Friday will be webcast at GoLobos.com, while Sunday's game will have live stats, available on a link at UNLVRebels.com.

All About The Rebels
UNLV is 3-2 in league play after the first conference two-game road win streak since 2003. Sophomore forward Salvador Bernal has moved up into a tie for fourth in the MPSF with 15 points (five goals, five assists), while forward Nick Marshall has 13 points and five goals this season. UNLV's 27 goals this season ties for the 16th most in the nation.

Scouting New Mexico
The Lobos were ranked in the top 10 for the majority of the season, until two losses to Air Force in the past two weeks knocked them down. Devon Sandoval is the team's leading scorer this year with 21 points (nine goals, three assists), while Blake Smith has a team-high nine assists.

Scouting Houston Baptist
The Huskies have struggled on defense at times this year, having allowed 22 goals over the past eight games. They do own a both a win and a tie over Mountain Division leader Air Force, and a tie against Denver as well. Kristopher Tyrpak paces the team this year with 10 points (three goals, four assists).

Next Time Out
UNLV returns home for a three-game homestand, starting with a Friday, Oct. 26 contest against Air Force at 7 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
