DAVIS, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's soccer suffered a loss in its season opener on Friday night, as UC Davis scored the only goal of the game with just under five minutes left for a 1-0 win over the Rebels on Friday night at Aggie Soccer Field.
The Rebels struggled on offense in the opening half, with UC Davis holding a 7-0 shot advantage in the first half. UNLV came out with a strong attack in the second half, totaling seven shots over the final 45 minutes, including two shots on goal. UC Davis goalkeeper Omar Zeenni stopped both shots however to earn the shutout.
Alex Aguiar would score the game-winner for the Aggies in the 86th minute, taking a back pass from Matt Sheldon and one-timing a shot into the left corner of the net for the game-winner. UCD finished with a 11-7 edge on shots, though only one shot on the goal, the score from Aguiar. Joe Vitale played the entire minutes in the net for UNLV. The Aggies finished the day with a 3-2 edge on corner kicks as well.
UNLV will conclude the weekend on Sunday, Aug. 26, with a match at No. 18 St. Mary's in Moraga, Calif., with a 2 pm start.
