Box Score

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - Five different players scored to give UNLV its longest win streak since the 2005 season after running past San Jose State 5-1 on Friday night in college women's soccer action from Lumberjack Stadium on the Northern Arizona campus. The victory, coming in the first game of the High Altitude Tournament, gave the Rebels their first five-game win streak in seven years, and improved their record to 6-2-1. The Spartans dropped to 2-5-1.

A two-goal burst two minutes apart midway through the first half put the Rebels ahead for good. Junior Courtney Botelho scored her first goal of the season when she stole the ball and slotted a shot to the top right corner in the 22nd minute. UNLV then increased its lead to 2-0 when junior Jenn Wolfe, who entered the day tied for sixth in the nation in goals, posted her eighth of the season. That goal came in the 23rd minute, a shot past the charging SJSU goalkeeper. Addy Guida and Julie Owens assisted on the score.

SJSU closed the deficit to one in the 27th minute, when a goal by Megan Rauchot made it a 2-1 contest, and that would be the score going into halftime. The Rebels pushed their advantage to two early in the second half after drawing a penalty kick. Macy Jo Harrison converted the try for UNLV, for a 3-1 lead in the 49th minute.

The Rebels tacked on two more goals in the final 10 minutes. Freshman Alexis Peterson scored her first career goal in the 81st minute on a breakaway off an assist from Wolfe. Classmate Nicole Candioglos then closed out the scoring in the 90th minute with her first career goal as well, off an assist from Kristen Sankey.

UNLV held a 14-6 edge on shots for the game, and 10-2 on shots on goal. Kylie Wassell played 81 minutes and posted one save for the Rebels, while Kelli McCracken played the final nine minutes. Zoe Makrigiannis posted five for the Spartans. SJSU took all three corner kicks of the contest.

The Rebels will close out action in the High Altitude Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 14, when they take on Florida Gulf Coast in a 10 am match.
